So, who is excited about the new Traveller RPG?

I hadn't heard of yet another one, but at this point, isn't "going back to it's roots" pretty cliche for Traveller? I mean T20 and GURPS both did that too.

I'd almost rather have seen it do something different, honestly, to distinguish itself from the last several years of Traveller relaunches.

Not me.

I have no real hostility toward the idea of another edition of Traveller, but I have a hard time imagining what they will get right that GURPS Traveller botched.

I thought that GURPS Traveller was pretty much perfect.

Well, they're doing it in a system other than GURPS. For me, that's very helpful all by itself. I don't really have anything bad to say about GURPS, but the system jsut never has appealed to me, for some reason.

And yes, I am excited about the new edition.

Weird. I was totally hyped about this but after the near total lack of advertising or promotion past the initial acquisition announcement from Mongoose. . . I completely forgot about it until this thread was reanimated. :uhoh:

I look forward to it in the sense that I hope it will bring people into the worlds of Traveller. Both new and old.

I have been doing my own thing for so long, and does the job so perfectly for me I won't be jumping into this new version. I'll likely buy "resources" like adventures, spaceship maps, space station maps, etc...

I've been in the playtest and apparently Mongoose have gotten rid of two major "looks-great-on-paper-but-sucks-in-play" mechanics (a Timing/Effect die mechanic which was downright broken and an energy-point allocation mechanic for starships involving too much accounting). So, as far as I know as of today (I've pre-ordered it, but it takes some time to reach Israel even with airmail) the system is very good and easy to learn and use.
