[solved] Need 3 Skill Challenges for Tomb of Abysthor

Hi there,

for my current Tomb of Abysthor Campaign, I need three skill challenges, to lock the players out of certain parts of the dungeon, until they are high enough in level:

A Brass Door secured by evil clerics with the help of magic as well as a very complicated lock. WIthout the prober key, they should not be able to pass this before they reach level 6.

An underground stream in a cavern with a lake. They should not be able to swim through or reach the other side before they reach level 8.

A corridor with a powerfull evil rune, summoning a guardian if they get to close. At the end of the corridor there is a door. This challenge should not be overcome before they reach level 6.

I'm currently at a complete loss how to achieve this...

I just found out about Stalker0's Obsidian SC System, thanks to that, this problem became a no brainer. Actually, I added 2 unplaned skill challenges :)

This is what I did:

Room 0-6 Font of Bones

Hallow the Font of Bones


3 round time limit
Mental (Religion) Level 3 (450xp) (DC 20, Fail <6, Succ >7)
Fail - Restart, Partial - deactivate for 5 min, Succ - destroyed
Summons 6 Font of Bone Skeletons per round, as long as living creatures are present, or it is destroyed.

Medium natural animate (undead)
XP 25
Initiative +3
Senses Perception +2; darkvision
HP 1; a missed attack never damages a minion.
AC 18; Fortitude 15, Reflex 16, Will 15
Immune disease, poison

+8 vs. AC; 5 damage.
Alignment Unaligned
Languages —
Str 15 (+2)

Room 0-8b

Kruthik Tunnels

Physical Level 2, 125xp, (DC19, Fail <6, Succ >7)
Acrobatics, Nature
Fail - Kruthik Encounter with -2 to attacks (fight in the tunnels)
Partial - Kruthik Encounter (In a cave with some head room)
Succ - no encounter, find some treasure (200gp)

Room 0-9A - Symbol of Bane

Physical Level 6 (250xp)
Endurance (DC21, Fail <6, Succ >7)
Miss = unable to approach the symbol, -2 Surges, Partial = -2 Surges, succ = meet the guardian (Bearded Devil)

Room 1-12

Bronze Door (Level 6) (750xp)


DC 21, 8 Successes needed, 5 Locks (Thievery), Warding Magic (Arcana, once per round), DC 21, Guardian
once the door is touched, 2 Angel of Valor Level 6 are summoned. The Divine protection of the door is down for 3 rounds, the locks can be picked. After those 3 Rounds, the Angels vanish, the door is warded again.

Diving through the stream (Level 8) (350xp)
Physical Level 8, Athletics, Endurance (DC 23, Fail <6, Succ >7)
Miss = no comming through, -2 Surges, Partial = -2 Surges
