Some Information on Gleemax social networking

I don't think Gleemax is replacing Dungeon and Dragon. Last time I checked neither of those magazines offered a social networking community. Gleemax is one face of the Digital Initiative at WotC.

Some form of online content to replace Dragon and Dungeon will be another aspect of the DI. Apparently you will only need one login and password to access all parts of the DI, but that does not mean that Gleemax = Dragon.

What it does seem to mean is that folks who play D&D and Magic and maybe something else can have essentially different but connected pages and even user IDs under the same umbrella of their core user account.

This is not a fact as we have said over and over. Gleemax is not the Dragon and Dungeon replacement.

It's pretty much the only thing WoTC has said.

And I worded it a bit wrong. What I mean is, this horrible website color scheme and this whole concept is the replacement for Dragon and Dungeon--sure, there might be similar content, but the feel of Dragon and Dungeon is dead.

Actually, that's not what we've said it all, athough that's what you've seemed intent on reading for several months now. At this stage, I almost feel like I could tell you it's 3:39pm pst, and you'd somehow read it as another sign of Wizard's evilness and intention to destroy anything even remotely cool about gaming.

But maybe that's just me. =)

If it's as complete and versatile as boardgamegeek, I'll maybe think about it. But honestly, whoever made the decision on the name needs to be fired

That would be a really really bad idea as I would assume Randy has something to do with it.

I can't even take the sight seriously with the horrible design and stupid name. I go to gaming websites, they don't look that bad. Green on black is bad on the eyes, and i still cant' get the purpose of it.

Thank the gods for the Firefox extension AdBlock Plus, is all I can say. I've finally eliminated that ridiculous Gleemax icon which covers up text at the top of the box.

I don't know about the people who designed that idiotic element, but I tend to scroll what I'm reading to the top - I didn't enjoy having to read in the middle of the box just so the end of each line wasn't covered by Gleemax's ugly mug.

If you read what Chris Perkins and Scott and Mike and the others have been saying, you'll discover they want the last issues of the magazines to have the focus at the moment.

This is the time to get the last issue of Dragon magazine and praise Paizo for what a good job they've done, not the time to just drop it and examine what Wizards has set up.

The folk at Wizards have posted quite a few details about what is coming up, but they're not ready to reveal the full details yet.

From what I can gather, there's going to be Dragon Online, Dungeon Online, plus other webtools, and you will be able to choose what you subscribe to.

The magazines will continue to exist, but in electronic form. You'll be able to download PDF versions of the articles and adventures, which will have some form of DRM (most likely watermarking).

Articles will come from Wizards staff and from outside submissions, just as in the days of the magazines (the submission guidelines are being worked on and will be here soon). The amount of content will be equal to or better than the days of the magazines. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if we got an adventure a week. I'd really hope they'd do Adventure Paths, but nothing on that yet.

Gleemax itself won't be the promotional site they've got up at the moment. Speaking as someone who plays a number of different games and styles of game - RPGs, Board Games and CCGs - I'm looking forward to a site that enables me to talk about all those games together. BoardGameGeek is an amazing site, but I feel constrained that I can't talk about RPGs and CCGs there.

Cheers!
