By combat basics, we mean not just fighter feat use, even though that is one area that is getting neglected, also what is needed is how skill use and combat can be used together.....(some players haven't moved beyond wanting +10 stat bonuses and 2.0 style combat [no offense intended to 2nd Ed players, it's just that we are playing 3.5 ]) and by going no-magic we have a (plausible) excuse not to allowing players uber stat bonus templates.
Basically a large chunk of our group has hack-n-slash-itis along with a bad case of using magic as a way of not having to make any skill rolls or any attack rolls more complex then "I roll to hit", and it's mainly because they haven't been exposed to any other way of doing it....and people have a way of willfully sitting in a rut unless you jerk the leash a little.
I probably opened a whole can of worms on that one.
