Some pics of a red ragon

I've started (very slowly!) to paint up some of my minis. I'm not particularly good at it, but not terrible either. Anyway, here's a grenadier red dragon sculpted by Julie Guthrie and painted by me!

(sorry, I'm not particularly good at photography either :( )

Looks good, but I would coat it in a matte finish. Try painting a source onto the light. In other words, imagine a source of the light and shade everything as if the light were coming from that direction. Paint in the highlights and shadows as well as tonal shading that you currently have.

Other than that I think you are on your way to doing some good painting work.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your feedback! It's always nice to know I haven't done a terrible job on what is a really nice figure :D

I'm presently working on an orc army - when they'r done, I'll post some pics of them too.

Thanks for your advice. It was going to get a coat of matte, but I was just waiting until I'd decided it was 100% finished.

Don't really know anything about highlights and shadows. I must say that I'm not too bothered - these are minis for the tabletop, not for display. OTOH, it's always nice learn new things and try something new and do the best job you can.

So, if you've got any adive on acheiving decent highlights/shadw, or any decent links, please tell!

Cool dragon - I don't remember that one.

Grenadier (and Julie Guthrie) did some really cool dragons. Try here for some links to more pictures.

I'd love to get hold of some more, but they tend to be quite expensive when they come up.
