Some playtest questions

Right. That goes without saying.

I was just making a note that the Fighter taking a Thief background could do a lot of "Thiefy" things and one-up the Rogue's backstab. Seemingly making it an overall "better" choice.
They can get some thief skills, but that's been true since 3.0 at least. That said, nobody will be able to match the Rogue for skill use: minimum +6 bonus and have a minimum die roll of 10, before adding your modifier? Yeah, Fighter's got nothin' on that.

Well, except the killing you thing. He can still kill you.

that's not quite right, since one of the +3's is meant to replace your modifier if it is lower than +3. So really saying they have a minimum check result of 16 would be more accurate. Even then this is misleading because it doesn't shift the whole distribution up, it just removes the probabilities of lower results and stacks them all on the 16.

Which means the minimum bonus is +6, since you get a +3 to replace a lower ability score, +3 for training. Minimum +6.

That's what "minimum" means; it doesn't meant the probability is shifted up, all it means is that 16 is the lowest possible result you can get. It says nothing more or less than that.

right I was just being a little hyper specific since you said that you had a minimum +6 before adding the ability modifier, which I though implied that you meant would add +6 to the ability modifier. You have a minimum of +6

Ah, I see. No, I was saying that you have a minimum of +6 to the die roll, and then the die roll had a minimum of 10, before you add the bonus. Which is what gives you a combined minimum of 16.
