Someone to watch over me...

I am of the view that this just promotes internet stalking and while you may be fine with it, have you given your permission to be photographed? This is not the same as being out in the public, if this is a private business you should have the right to protect your image.

Yeah the company in MI that fired people who wouldn't quit smoking...that sucks.

Sure, put a webcam on me. You can watch me pleasure myself while working :)

I work in the Electrics Shop at the University Performing Arts Center. Recently anyone watching the webcam would see alot of me doing routine maintenance; such as relabling, coiling and stocking cable. Wooh!

They say the webcam is there partially for prospective students (though I think watching that would deter prospectives...) and partially to show the investors how high-tech we are.

Also if we're working on a big show and everyone is just sitting around, my boss could call from home and ask if we're supposed to be doing something.

I didn't really sign a contract. I work hourly, even though it amounts to full time. And I suppose if you're working in performing arts, you're supposed to be willing to put your face out there even if you're in tech.

*shrug* It doesn't bother me enough to complain. And if it does, I'll talk to my boss about it. I just think I'll be a little paranoid knowing that anyone in the world could be watching me.

Of course, this does beg the question as to *why* the manager decided this was a good idea. Was he just bored?

I think that's part of it. Sometimes we go into major lulls. Since summer session has started, we've been fairly busy, but before that there was almost nothing to do.

Also, sometimes the center just tells various departments to do the supidest things.

That's beurocracy for you.

So I found out today that my morning job has a webcam. Not such an unusual occurance in this technological world, except that my boss set up this webcam in the shop. Not so that he could watch us, but so that he could set up a live stream on the internet. Now anyone can watch me at work in the morning. It's kind of wierd. Not that I do anything I'm ashamed of at work, but now I'm paranoid that someone important is going to see me taking a break or something, and I don't want to get in trouble for that.

Also, it just seems wierd to me to be under constant surveilance.

Ooooo..... can we watch? :p

Personally, I think surveillance at work is wrong. I don't see the need to put cameras up all over the place. People's gonna be sneakin' around, stealin', etc. no matter what.
