Something constructive at Wikipedia!

Hey all. :) I'm not dead yet!

I've been working on some of my own projects at Wikipedia for several months now. It's been a welcome break, and I'm probably almost 60% done with my last project there (started in October I think, if that gives you any idea how long it'll be before I come back here regularly). I actually started on D&D stuff, but found working on comic book stuff more rewarding, so I moved on to that.

However, I never left the D&D stuff too far behind. I realized that there really ought to be a D&D monster list page on there somewhere, but that was way too much work for me to take on alone so I just left it to be. However, the persistence of deletionists made me realize it was now or never. ;) Come and help me build the List of D&D monsters if you are interested! (or see the discussion of how this came to be) We need help mostly in sourcing monsters, determining what books they have appeared in, and listing the contents of each book. Not sure what to do about magazines yet, but let's start with actual books by edition. Hope to see at least some of you there!

I'll stick around here briefly as well, because I miss the atmosphere. ;)

Edit: Nope, looks like this one from december. :)
Yeah, December is the most recent version. I'll post the next update in April, once the last couple of official 3.5 books arrive here. Unfortunately, my spreadsheet doesn't include any descriptions, so it can't just be plugged in to Wikipedia :\

BOZ, would you mind letting us know when the format for the Wikipedia entries has been agreed?

As far as I know it's been agreed on. The index page has been started, but needs a bunch of work. The blue links on that page are the individual lists for each edition (I can already see 2E needing more than one page in the end, but we'll worry about that later) I've got the OD&D one pretty well along, and I'm working on the 1E page now. If anyone wants to help, I can see the BD&D page as most likely to need work, and 2E should need some help as well since there's so much to work with. I don't plan to oversee getting every single book finished, and I'm really only concerned about getting at least let's say two books started for each edition before these lists go live (those sneaky deletionists would love to "get" a stubby list page). There are plenty of gamers with OCDs more involved than mine who would love to go to town on something like this, I'm sure. :)

Mostly, we'll need help identifying what sources contain monsters (right now, for the sake of arbitrariness, let's say any module or book with more than 10 monsters or so) and your index will go a long way towards identifying where else individual monsters have appeared.

Right now, I'm not at all sure what to do with Dragon and Dungeon and even White Dwarf and etc, and honestly I'm not even going to touch that issue if I can help it. :) We can worry about those, and any modules which contain 5 monsters or fewer later - or just leave it up to other people to take care of.

I've finished what I'm going to do with the OD&D monsters and the 1E monsters; have a look! I eventually decided to forego typing descriptions in for every last one of them because I just don't have the time.

If you have the time and want to help, I could use some help getting started with the 2E monsters (I'm going to start with MC1 and MC2, but feel free to hit anything else you like), and especially the BD&D monsters. :)

finished MC1 and MC2. there's a bunch of 2E monsters so I'm not even going to try to hit them all. ;) I'm thinking that maybe it would be good enough to hit the Monstrous Manual and then move on to the basic D&D that ran concurrent to both 1E AD&D and 2E AD&D.
