Something missing at GenCon this year?

Alright, I'll be the boorish person who asks this question, but it was something I noticed this year at GenCon, and I'm curious if it was just me, or something that was actually noticed by others.

Now, I only spent around two hours total in the dealers room this year (the line for SR4e sent me running away in despair) but I noticed two things:

1) Lack of good swag being given away. Sure the economy is doing fine, but are the gaming companies not booming or are they just not feeling generous?

2) And more importantly... I didn't see a single 'booth babe', nor have I seen any threads with booth babe pictures like we've seen in past years. There was an average amount of eye candy going around for both genders in terms of folks in costume this year, but not associated with trying to attract attention to booths in the dealers room.

Anyone else besides me notice this?

I agree here, I think companies though are looking at the new high quality things then worrying about the little things they can give away.

Well, there were booth babes, Fiery Dragon had one and so did other places. I'd suggest asking Buttercup about the babes of Gen Con threads, but I think she'd kill me if I suggested that; so I'm highly not recomenmding doing that :D

I noticed quite a few "Booth Babes". As a matter of fact, there was a lengthy discussion regarding Tigra VS all others, at True Tavern on Friday night.

Hmm... maybe I just wasn't paying as much attention this year as I was last year. I'm not single anymore so apparently I might have just not been looking. I blame Clueless. :D

I was afraid to bring it up, but I agree something was missing. I've had a hard time putting my finger on exactly what it was.

I agree the booth babes weren't what they were the past couple years.

Some of the releases I was anticipating were either not available, sold out, or available as a god awful expensive limited edition (Game of Thrones I'm looking at you).

Oddly, the most interesting seminar I attended was Medieval Cookery presented by Daniel Myers. Good job Daniel.

Would you be so kind as to start a new thread an elaborate on that event, please?

I find it strange since this year I took home more free stuff than I usually do, but I was actualy looking, and it was mostly dice (which are still nice). But there weren't many great deals, and there have been less and less as time has gone on. I remember when the best place to buy a book was Gen Con, now it's only the case with a brand new book or a special edition. Otherwise, you can get it cheaper through your FLGS or favorite online dealer. The only book I ended up picking up with the Weapons of the Gods Con Special with was the PDF and the book to be shipped later for the same price as the regular book.

as far as the Booth Babes, there were a few, though not as many as some years. I actualy gamed with one of them, which was quite entertaining. I wish I had gotten a chance to stop by and see her other costume (she was doing a different costume each day). I haven't seen any threads pop up, though there was a spot to upload pics here at Enworld for a short time (You can still find it if you google for Gen Con Booth Babes 2005, though it's not there).

Tigra
Sexy Nurse
Fiery Dragon "regular hottie"
Duct-Tape girl (who's put on weight)
Armored Chick (over at Mongoose)

Those were my favorites.

You see, I missed all of these. We need pics!

I was a bit surprised to find, in our exhibitor prereg packet, info about hiring booth babes for the con (tho they used a term different from "booth babe").
