D&D 5E Sometimes...

Sacrosanct

When that demon portal keeps pumping out manes demons every round as long as the cultists are at their respective 5-pointed star positions? You just need to lay down an AoE spell and hope the rest of the party makes their saving throws :)

If I'm playing a front-liner, I usually try to have something that lets the casters "Drop everything on my pos!". Be it resistance to a particular element that the casters have access to (and know I can resist) or whatever. My current front-liner is a 6th level Oath of the Ancients paladin. This level was nice with Chr to saves vs. magic in an aura, next level is resists. At that point, our casters will be able to drop some indiscriminate justice and all of us huddled near my char will be relatively okay.

If you happen to have an evoker, sure ;) We had a tiefling sorcerer and a diviner wizard. No evokers. It's not like they planned to be slinging AoE spells where allies were lol.

Yeah, sometimes it's tough to make the call between "okay what character class do I really want to play" vs. "the nature of this game makes certain things (like friendly fire) inevitable."

You don't have to plan on slinging spells at your allies - it's gonna happen eventually. Haha.
