Sommers Takes On "Flash Gordon"

Too bad Krug got here before I did. :)

I'd actually love to see a more "serious" take on Flash Gordon - but the mythology is such that it's tough to make a movie faithful to the original premise. That, and if you say "Ming of Mongo" people start tittering.

Umm, what? The movie was very much in the vein of the old comic strips.

A little too "tongue in cheek" for my tastes -- fun, but a bit too funny.

I would prefer they played it straight. But that is a personal taste. :)

Well, Sam Jones and Melody Anderson played it fairly straight. Everyone else had fun :)

Fantastic film.

Okay, guys. I heard something disappointing in the grapevine so, I'll put it in a form of a question for you to answer:

What do you think of Ashton Kutcher as Flash Gordon?

P.S. I'm retching as we speak.

Be prepared to laugh. WENN reports that spunk of the moment Ashton Kutcher is director Stephen Sommers' favourite to play the title role in his new version of the classic "Flash Gordon".

The article quotes an industry source who says " Stephen sees Ashton as the perfect Flash Gordon. He has the right look, the right build and he isn't known for any one film role so he would be an empty canvas for Stephen to work with".

A friend of Kutcher adds "He'd love to play a comic-book hero like Flash. Just as long as he doesn't have to wear tights". Hey, so long as they include Klytus and the phrase "Bring me the boor worms", I'll be happy.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Man, so many comdies coming out, between this and D&D II, I'm wondering when all the action films are coming out.

Is Ben Affleck playing Ming?

Sigh... I hate Ashton Kutcher.

I like a lot of what Sommers has done, so he's earned some leeway with me. So the notion of casting Kutcher (if it happens) doesn't necessarily mean I'll miss this movie. But it does turn it from a "must see" to a "might see." :(
