Soneillon. Part 1 (Updated 6/15)

I could've sworn they had reached an agreement about Ortwin's philandering. Guess not. Poor Ortwin. :D

I remember that too. But Iua can't just turn off her emotions at will. Somewhere, even if only deeply inside, she expects loyalty from Ortwin. While her expectations may be a bit high when put to Ortwin, they are there and they are a part of her. And, afterall, is it really that much for a wife to expect from a husband?

Regardless, as you say, Ortwin's in for a whoopen--even if it's only a verbal.

One should expect as much from Ortwin, but he should at least attempt to behave himself, heck he's practiacally flaunting his transgretions in front of her.... I'd really hate to get on her bad side, and most especially the bad side of her father.. or mother for that matter.

Nice update as always!

You know, at this point maybe the party should look for an easier spot to operate? Or is this going to be equaly hard everywhere.

Ortwin realy needs a bit better judgement than this...

Yeah, well any previous "agreements" are probably due for some serious revisions now that those pregnancy induced hormone changes are kicking in...

I don't think I would have missed that, but I wouldn't be surprised. It would of course mean that fay (male, at least) are capable of reproducing in Sep's world.

But just try and think of Ortwin as a family mangoat. :D

The character interactions in this story are just astoundingly good! I agree, the disembodied head is a great comic relief, and poor Eadric, trying to be a leader to this motely crew, who probably only vaguely view him as a leader at all!

What an interesting and true development, that being freed to decide right from wrong for himself is really only giving the Ahma more headaches than before. ;)

BTW, as much as it may privately annoy Iua, I suspect that Ortwin's cavorting isn't just because he's feeling randy - I would guess that he's trying to drum up local support for their cause, not to mention gathering information. If he happens to really enjoy doing it, well, who can blame him? Besides Iua, of course. :D Love that husband/wife dynamic.

It's really funny and impressive that the group is here, and basically fumbling in what is an entirely new world, and mostly flying by the seat of their pants in terms of preparations and actions. It's even more impressive that it's working decently well so far!

Were that not a retorical question, I might include Edric, Iua's parents, all of Orthdoxy, and maybe Nym.

But you're right, being who he is, finding out information and seeking to drum up a resistance/uprising would likely be the primary motive. He's just found a way to have fun at work--and Iua's going to kill him for it.

The agreement...

That was in The Rape of Morne 1 (search for the page yourself, myself I add "&perpage=200"):

Under the watchful eye of Orop, a large but simple Djinn who had been entrusted with chaperoning Iua, Ortwin and the duelist met in one of the numerous small orchards in Ulao’s palace grounds

"There will be a dowry, of course," Iua said.

"Oh?" The Bard replied with poorly feigned surprise.

"Don’t play the innocent with me, Ortwin," Iua sighed. "You knew damn well there would be one."

"This may come as a revelation, Iua," Ortwin said, genuinely offended, "but I’m not doing this for the money. I actually quite like you."

"You quite like me. Well, that’s decent. We don’t want to get too carried away, do we?"

"Iua, I fall in love – or lust – on a regular basis. It’s no real gauge of my affection for someone, and doesn’t inform my decisions particularly helpfully. I was bad enough before, but since my…er…"

"Satyriasis?" She suggested.

"Yes," the Bard agreed. "Well, my hormonal urges are even more pronounced than before. It’s my basic nature."

"I know," she sighed. "Ortwin, understand that I was raised in the court of a Djinn who is considered a philanderer amongst even his own kind. I am half-Auran. I lack the moral baggage of mortals as much as you do."

"Hmm," Ortwin replied.

"Although I am less of an erotomaniac," she added.

"Hmm," Ortwin said again, somehow reassured. "How big a dowry are we talking, anyway?"

"Well, you must consider that I am his one-hundred and eighty-sixth child. I am favoured, however, and Ulao still holds a soft spot for Mulissu despite what he might say."

Ortwin nodded and gestured for her to continue.

"And," she continued in a low voice, so that Orop could not overhear, "he seems to think highly of you for some bizarre reason. He has the impression that you are some kind of bigwig."

"I am the best liar in the world," he admitted. "That is a title of some distinction. But how much?" He added, impatiently.

"Two hundred thousand gold pieces," she said.

Ortwin shook, and giggled inanely.
