Songs for your Characters

In my group, we frequently associate a song to a character after we've played that character for a few sessions and gotten to "know" him or her.

Right now, my favorite character is a Rashemi berserker named Vladislak Dyernina. He is Chaotic Good, and very often charges in to the fray without worrying about the danger (like a lot of barbarians). But what I think sets him apart from other barbarians is his light and calm demeanor, his humility, and his willingness to risk life and limb for a good cause.

In our past session, we were in the town of Eveningstar, and the DM basically pulled a Resident Evil. A Cyrcicist caused the entire town to become zombified, and the purple dragon knights in town rose as juju zombies (!!!). Camping outside town, he hears the noise of screaming and immediately rushes off to help. He cleaves down many zombies before grouping with the other PCs in the middle of town.

We entered the barracks and took down the Priest of Cyric (who was a Priest of Torm before going evil) and taking down his summoneded undead beasty, as well as 8 juju zombies.

What makes the victory so incredible is that the priest was an 8th level Cleric, the undead beasty he summoned was a Caller In Darkness, and the juju zombies were 3rd level Fighters (so thats a CR 8, a CR 9, and 8 CR 5s). And we were all 3rd level PCs (!!!).

of course at the end of the battle me and one PC (a Paladin of Torm) were unconscious and all that was up was the other PC (the Cleric of Tymora), but I call our victory nothing short of amazing.

Therefore, I am choosing between two songs:

"Hero" by Chad Kroeger, or,
"Fireproof" by Pillar

"Hero" for obvious reasons. "Fireproof" because Vlad basically feels invincible when he does the daring, and when he rages, nothing can take him down.

Ok, so part of the reason for this thread was to brag about my PC, but you can brag too. But seriously, does anyone else choose songs for their PCs? What songs are they?

Once had a party of four 11th level characters take down a CR 24 vampire in his own Tower of High Sorcery due to some amazing planning on my player's part, backstabbing on another's, and the lucky placement of the third guy.

More impressive was us getting out of there alive :-)

Honestly though, for songs, I'm trying to make my own through modplug. Made a couple already, but they suck...

Hmm....the onlycharacter I ever went into real detail has his own theme song, in my mind.

Angcuru, son of Bhall, retired adventurer and father. - Master of the Wind - Manowar.

Heh, We had so many characters that had themes we've burned CD's of the songs. :-)

Some notable themes I remember for various characters (a sample)

Remathilis Eveningwind (elf/rogue/CG) - "Here I Go Again." by Whitesnake. As a character who was a wanderer and suffered many hardships, it was an inspiring song for him.

Maxim Thunderhammer (dwarf/crusader/LG) - "Heeding the Call." by Hammerfall. its a song about glory and honor and fighting, perfect for any priest of Moradin.

Xavier Pendragon (Human/fighter&rogue&ghostwalker/CG) "Running out of time" by Ozzy Osbourne. A dark brooding character avenging his families death. He's constantly blurring the line of good and evil and wondering if he will ever live a normal life again.

Thats just three I can think of, but I have at least 20 or so other ones.

I don't know Fireproof, but Hero is a good song. Pick the one which enspires you most. That's his theme.

I recently burned a whole cd of "hero" songs that gets me pumped up before I play every week.

"Hero" is on there!

I had a player who had a LG Dwarven Cleric of The Smith ( god of craft, earth, metal work). He carried arround 7 different types of hammers. He Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer. His feat selection at first level had him end up with a +10 craft check ... and every problem could be solved with that hammer.

I know I've picked out songs, however I cannot remember any of them lol.

When I was playing a dwarven street sam with a penchant for the "old ways" the other players attached Riddle of Steel/Riders of Doom from Conan the Barbarian to him. I played him long enough, even surviving through Bug City, that everyone in the gaming group just started calling me by my character's name. The song lived on to be the entrance song for the reception at my wedding.

When creating one of my favorite characters, named Dammerung (Human Ranger/Fighter/Rogue, Lawful Evil), I had in mind Guns 'n Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle." It was a fun concept for the evil guy.
