Songs that define who you are

Now that I have found you
In the coolth of your evening smile
The shade of your parasol
And your love flows through me
Though I drink at your pool
I burn for you, I burn for...

You and I are lovers
When night time folds around our bed
In peace we sleep entwined
And your love flows through me
Though an ocean soothes my head
I burn for you, I burn for...

Stars will fall from dark skies
As ancient rocks are turning
Quiet fills the room
And your love flows through me
Though I lie here so still
I burn for you, I burn for you
I burn...

Poison's song- Something to Believe In

I don't have the words on me but it relates to wondering why things are as they are. Why are politicians bad? Why are religious leaders stealing from the poor and so on. I always question life around me.

Black Velvet - Alannah Myles.

(Though its mostly the Chorus that sums me up - due to the fact i tend to drink rather a lot of Black Velvet)

Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your knees
Black velvet if you please.

It always makes me smile, it certainly brings me to my knees and the last line is usually my first in the pub.

Cool song -- it took me years to realize it was about Elvis Presley. :)

Talk about a blast from the past - I really liked that song when it was released during my university days in London.

Yeah, it holds double meaning to me, in that "Doc Hollywood" was the first date movie I ever took my wife to. :)

The song that sums me and my life up to a tee: "I'm No Stranger To The Rain" - Keith Whitley

Couldn't have picked better. :)

Don't make me do it without the fez on. Oh no.
Don't want to do it without the fez on. Oh no.
That's what I am
Please understand
I want to be a holy man.

I posted the first verse in the "What's this guy's story" thread but I'll post the whole thing here:

I'm a piece of work, I'm iron and lace
I'm shy, right up there in your face
I'm all dumbfounded, stubborn as an ass
Sharp as an arrow in a pile of glass
I'm a sweetheart, genius, restless jerk
Lord have mercy, I'm a piece of work

Well, the lord made me on a long thin limb
Made sure I'd remember him
Or her in the middle of a long, dark night
Creation crazy, death sheet white
Made in the image of a lion shocked lamb
I am who the hell I am
Ever better, bad to worse
Down to the letter I'm a piece of work

I’m a piece of work, I'm an angel's fiend
Bathed in lavender and gasoline
Scared brave, shallow in an ink black well
Lightly browned in the fires of hell
Wicked, holy, full on fake
Best known for my big mistake
I'm Zen wise, peaceful, gone berserk
Good god almighty I'm a piece of work

I'm a dreadful sight and I just don't care
Spent all morning pulling out my hair
I woke at dawn with a crazy spin
Half the day trying to glue back in
Mother, bloody mary, please
Wipe that smile right off your knees
I'm the CEO of the mailroom clerks
Lord have mercy, what a piece of work

I'm a piece of work, I'm a lovesick boy
Cloth cap, caviar and corduroy
All over the map, just a-lost in space
With a filthy mind and a choirboy's face
Heels up, head down, straight on through
Watch out, woman I'm-a get to you
I'm a gladiator with a mind to irk
Good god almighty I'm a piece of work
I'm a piece of work

- Piece of Work (by William Kimbrough and sung by Jimmy Buffett and Toby Kieth)

BTW, Torm, that's an awesome song and one I like to sing. My life hasn't been quite bad enough for me to really deserve it but I certainly identify with it at times. I hope that 30 years from now you're singing a different tune.

The song is sad in some ways - some of which I know all too well - but I see it more positively, overall. More of a sort of "bring it on, biyatch" to the universe. :D

(If you're reading, note the lack of capitalization in those last two words, The Universe. ;) )

The Used - Yesterday's Feelings

Close my eyes and move to the back of my mind
The worries are washed out to sea
See the changes, people's faces blurred out
Like sunspots or raindrops

Now all those feelings, those yesterdays feelings will all be
lost in time
but today ive wasted away for today is on my mind

Left the only worries I had in my hands
Away from the light in my eyes
Holding tight and try not to hide how i feel

Now feelings mean nothing

All those feelings, those yesterdays feelings will all be lost
in time
but today I've wasted away for today is on my mind

I can't get a worry
I'm feeling so lonely
Breaking apart all this love in my heart
Close my eyes and move to the back of my mind

Where feelings mean nothing

All those feelings, those yesterdays feelings will all be lost
in time
But today I've wasted away, for today is on my mind

I can't get a worry
I'm feeling so lonely
breaking apart all this love in my heart
