Sonic X anime for download!

The EN World kitten
The guys over at www.sonicanime.net have been kind enough to provide us with all sorts of info on the new Sonic X series, including beginning to subtitle and post episodes! Over at www.sonicanime.net/episodes.html you can find the first episode for download with english subtitles, the second episodes for download, apparently raw, and a preview of the third episode, along with other goodies!

Enjoy!

P.S. Can we not turn this into a sordid debate about how legal this is or is not? This sort of fansubbing is freely distributed, not for profit, and not taking money away from the people who make this anime, since no DVD of this anime is yet available, even in Japan, so it's all okay. 'nuff said.

You're right in that we're not going to get into a debate as to whether it's legal or not; and I'm not interested in whether people think it *should* be legal or not. I'm just going to ask the question: is it, or is it not legal?

To the best of my knowledge, in the US at least it is legal, though commonly called gray market. Until the show is released in the US, it's not illegal to do fan subbing. Once the show is released, that changes immediately. I know someone who used to distribute tapes of PRIDE events from Japan and he had to stop once US PPV started carrying PRIDE.

Black Omega is right. It's not illegal since they aren't infringing the copyright and making money on a product that isn't theirs. The main way that'd happen is if they charged for the product (which they aren't), or if they were offering this for free when it was domestically for sale (which is is not), since that'd cause a loss in profits when people who would otherwise buy the DVDs would not.

There is nothing illegal with this brand of fansubbing the way it stands now. It is, in effect, not very different from just being able to see it on TV (as you can in Japan), since its free and freely available to anyone.
