It's very nice on a newer system.

Was not nice on my older laptop (not enough RAM, plus Toshiba apparently has no plans to upgrade some of their gizmos like the tool that allows you to change the screen brightness). Ended up wiping and installing XP from original installation disk.

How about shutdown speed?

Shutdown speed is better than XP, but not as impressive as startup.

Wouldn't it be easier to set your mouse button or keyboard to startup the PC? Or your monitor's power button?

Yeah, but that involves messing with the config, which I haven't done yet. I think the default startup is any keyboard buttons/mouse buttons/mouse movement.
I just want to turn mouse movement off... and I haven't bothered yet.
