Sorcerer vs. Warmage

Arcane Disciple is from Complete Divine. It allows arcane spellcasters access to spells from one clerical domain, but the spells are Wis-based. Domain spells can still only be cast once per day.

Which makes the feat completely pointless for sorcerers, but I guess it's pretty good for the Warmage still (even tho they are also spontaneous casters, but they don't waste their spells known with them).

P.S. Yeah, no BAB, my bad, did copy that from somewhere above. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Warmage (the MiniHB version at least) get to add some spells to his spell list, if they are from certain schools of magic (evocation, conjuration, transmutation)?

Edit: also, how would a Warmage/Incantatrix hold up (if the combination is even feasible)?

monte cook's sorceror? where would i find it/what's different?

To answer the second part of your question, Monte's sorcerer gets d6 for HP, 4 skill points instead of 2, uses XP instead of material components, has a few charisma based skills added to his list, and knows one extra spell per level. The trade off is that some of his spells, like haste (3.0) are of a higher level than wizards and some spells are removed from his list entirely (as I recall, one of the spells removed was identify).

Arcane Disciple + shaman Hero domain (OA) = Div favor + div power + righteous might + Tensers transformation + giant size. Holy battle sorc twinkage, Batman!

IIRC, improved invisibility was bumped up a level too--and that is a most sacrosanct spell.

Monte's sorcerer basically made for a more balanced PC class, but it became a lot less easy to use those monsters that have sorcerer levels (like dragons, rakshasas, etc.) without homework because they now had an unfamiliar spell list.

, oh wait... no buffs... well anyways,

Not quite. Fist of Stone, a first level spell, gives +6 to Strength (plus a natural slam attack).

Everyone in our game tomorrow night will fear my Pixie/Warmage. Constant Greater Invis, a fly speed, and the Spellfire Wielder feat--he's good to go. I hope! ;)

Oh, in general, sorcerer is MUCH better than warmage.

All the warmage can do is do mean things to people. While they're VERY good at that, they can't do anything else useful. The DM in my al-Qadim game expanded the skill list so I could at least do something out of combat, but for utility spells, I ain't got nothing. Had the shugenja/hakima not D-Doored me out last session, I'd be dragon-chow.

However, if you have items to cover deficiencies, or other casters to carry that role and warriors to hide behind, the warmage can rock the house. My character has 8 spell levels, but casts at 10th due to Practiced Spellcaster, and with his Int of 20 (16, +4 Enh.) and Improved Edge, his average Magic Missile damage is equal to or higher than a regular Sorc's Maximized one. I can also choose freely between what spells I have, so I don't have to worry about not having Acid Orb on my spell list if I have to fight a troll. Since you wear armor, you don't necessarily get tagged as a spellcaster by an opponent (until they see you cast, but that means that you might be free the first round of combat).

It isn't what I'd consider an ideal caster for a party, but it's quite nice. I chose to play one for sheer simplicity.
