Lets say I have a Sorcerer 5, Wizard 5 multi-classed character and I have a known spell for the sorcerer and the same spell in my wizards spell book (say Shield or Mage Armor)

Since both classes have the spell and it is a known spell for the sorcerer what would the duration be if cast by ether class?

5 minuts/5 Hours
OR
10 minutes/ 10 hours since my caster lvl is 10.

Just like a cleric/sorceror or a cleric/wizard. The levels don't stacks.

[edit: IIRC they do stack for familars abilities though.]

Caster level is still only 5. It doesn't matter that they both know the spell.

Well not quite.

From the SRD

Caster Level

A spell's power often depends on its caster level, which is generally equal to the character's class level.

the character can cast a spell at a lower caster level than normal, but the caster level must be high enough for the character to cast the spell in question, and all level-dependent features must be based on the same caster level.
I beleive Caster lvl is 10 for Disspel magic checks.

You believe incorrectly. Caster level is 5 in all cases.

The only time caster level stacks is in the case of certain prestige classes which specifically say so.

NAFAIK. If you cast dispel magic as a wizard, your caster level check uses your wizard level. If you cast it as a sorcerer, your caster level check uses your sorcerer level. If you cast it as a bard...well, you get the idea.

The caster level check is 1d20 + the spell's caster level. If you have dispel magic memorized for your wizard, and you cast it, you're casting it as a wizard. If you cast it from your sorcerer's spell list, your casting it as a sorcerer. It doesn't matter if you have the spell for both your sorcerer and wizard levels. Only one of them is actually casting it.

Yeah, it's caster level 5 for each. You must keep them seperate. Note, however, that your wizard and sorcerer levels do stack in regards to your familiar, so you would have a familiar based on caster level 10.

There are a few arcane PrC that give you an increase in caster level w/o providing one level of additional spells. The Eldritch Master (Dragon 280) is one example.
