Sorcerers and Bloodlines

Been here a while...
Not wanting to get into a big "do sorcerers stink" debate, let's just say I think they're slightly underpowered. Do you think giving them bloodlines from Unearthed Arcana at a discount would be too much? Least for free, Minor for one level instead of two, Major for two instead of three.

Well, I gave sorcerers the least bloodline for free and added a bonus spell on each spell level with a bloodline motif. I also took away something in retrun, like forbidding fey bloodline sorcerers those spells that create and/or control undead. :)
 

Hey, if you're going to do a bloodline sorcerer, I've got to recommend Ron Owen's Lineage Sorcerer. There's a link for pdf under House Rules.
 

I give them Eschew Material Compoenents for free. And I don't mind if spell selection is done when the character needs it. (then they're stuck with it, of course). And I consider letting them cast in armor, but then don't actually do it. (Except in my gestalt game, and that's different.)

But once bloodlines start coming in, it becomes complicated. The above is easy to do and easy to use.
 

Problem is Bloodlines are soo individual

Bloodlines that are central enough to give a character magic must (imho) be central enough to guide most of the character outlook. As such they are so specific that I find little use for the general rule. I'd let a player play an ancestral sorcerer but I'd be less than eager to populate the whole game world with dozens of exceptions of this sort.

I'd rather see a Celestial/infernal/extraplanar/polymorphed parent that was reflected as a one off -- not have a rule to create them as a category.

I second this...go check it out. This makes sorcerer's COOL.
 


If you can hunt them down, the bloodline feats from Dragons (304 and 315?) make great ways to up sorcerers. Just give them 3-4 bonus feats scattered and let them select draconic (CA), bloodline, or metamagic feats with them...

Evens out the problems nicely.
 

I think its a great idea.

I'm not sure how strong it should be, but I'm leaning moderate or major. I've seen few PC sorcerers, and I think the lack of flexability is a serious drawback.

Maybe throw in a d6 hit die while your at it!
