Sovereign Press announces new 3.5 revision of the original Dragonlance modules

One of the complaints by those who loathe DL is that the book 'heroes' overshadow events in the War of the Lance and that the players end up of being 'second string', regardless of whatever adventures they do during the War of the Lance.

So, deep six the original characters, IMO. I have no interest in playing any of the original characters and I think to include them is to potentially offend those people who may be wooed to DL. Just like Elminister and Drizzt are red flags which get people riled up about the Realms, the original DL characters do the same thing to other people.

Don't mention them. Let the adventure be the players' characters adventures, not proxy Rastlin, Carmen, etc. adventures. If WOTC did a adventure series in which you can play Drizzt or Elminister, who would be interested in it? Or more correctly, who would beak off on these boards about how they would never buy such garbage because it has Drizzt or Elminister in it....

People seem to always complain about the old DL modules being "railroading", well make them more open-ended. I'll also second the idea of making it more based on the idea of playing your own PC's instead of Pre-Gens.

If there are going to be stats for the Heroes of the Lance, make it Crystal Clear that it is Completely Optional to play through as them, and they are there as pre-gens only for people who want to reenact the novels. Make the modules work just fine without them (presuming of course there is a cleric and a wizard in the party for the places where they are needed).

This sounds great! While I haven't picked up any of the Sovereign Press stuff, I have head good things about it. I may have to head out and pick these up when they are released.

The original characters will definitely be there; the demand for it simply cannot be ignored. But I in no way think that the adventure will require the use of the original characters.

I have fond memories of the old modules. Include the old characters with 3.5 update, just like the old module, use is entirely optional.

Are they going to release the Adventure as one gigantic campaign in a box, or is each module going to be sold seperately?

Frankly I would run this in a second if the War of the Lance path is reasonably well done and takes characters from 1-20. Krynn always had some cool factor to me, I would run it as a side compaign easily.

How will d20 characters survive without clerics at low levels? I don't think most d20 players have the guts and wits to get by without massive healing . . . ;)

I'd vote (and might even buy) the adventures set up for the player's characters, but have little / no interest in seeing a re-hash with the novel characters (although I wouldn't mind seeing their stats available for optional use).

I'd be very interested in the new version of DL13, the wargame module that TSR produced.

I played that game several times, and the computer game version as well.
