SoW: Rescue at Rivenroar (RECRUITING CLOSED)

Adventurer
I know I don't need to be doing this, but I just can't help myself.

I want to run the new Scales of War adventure path. In a perfect world we'll play all the way through 30th level. In reality, we'll go until we're sick of it... or until they stop giving away the pdf's for free (unless I can sweet-talk the better half out of the monthly fee afterwards).

We need five 1st characters built on the standard point buy system in the 4e Player's Handbook. A healthy mix of party roles is preferred, but not necessary. That's what they make alternates for. ;) A decent background would be appreciated. Standard races only. Standard classes only. Standard everything else only. That should be it for creation guidelines.

Posting guidelines:

DM updates will be slow, and dependent upon time and connectivity. Typically if it takes longer than 60 seconds to load I give up and go to bed.

Narratives are in third person, present tense: "The surly dwarf hefts his heavy axe over his shoulder as he plods down the narrow corridor deeper into the darkness below."

Keep track of powers used.

I'll role your initiative, you roll the other stuff.

Players role their own dice on Invisible Castle and post the link.

As DM, I will NOT use Invisible Castle or link to my rolls. Take it for what it's worth.

-----

I'd prefer players not have read the adventure ahead of time. That being said, I suppose as long as you don't make it obvious you've read it I won't complain. Just don't be surprised when I change something. ;)

Submissions are open until all spots are filled.

If I missed something, ask.

Accepted Characters:

--Dwarven Fighter; garyh
--Peregrine Thistledown, halfling paladin; The Digger
--Illian Starsinger, Elven Cleric; renau1g
--Half-elf Warlock/Wizard; Steve Gorak
--Aliyas One-Arrow, Elven Ranger; Shayuri

sign me up Dragonbor fighter or warlord oh and I can't make a background without knowing if this is a genetric world or a specfic homebrew of somekind if so information please:)

If you'll have me, I definitely want in.
Concept: Half-elf warlock (fey or star), wizard multiclass.
I like the idea of a scholar that started off becoming a wizard, but learned through his studies how to harness outerworldy power (old forbiden tomes).

Details will be coming soon.
Cheers,

SG

I'd like to play an elven cleric of Correllon. He'll stay at range and blast his enemies with divine might, while providing support for his allies (i.e. a devoted cleric)

Neat! I would enjoy it and it would help me familiarize with 4th ed.

Thinking about a human wizard: sarcastic, a little bit crazy, completely unorthodox and atheist. Not in the sense that he doesn't believe gods exists: he just things that they arent't really important: just a bunch of powerful being who thing they are something more than that, but really arent. Unaligned, in the sense that ethics are not for him. However, he behaves as good more often that evil, as this leads to an easier life.

You look to be a little light on defenders. I've been toying with the idea of a Charisma based halfling paladin of Kord. He's been brought up on stories of great heros and glorious heroic deeds.

I haven't played DnD for many years (except for computer games) although I have played many other rpg's.

It's a generic world, most definitely.

Sounds intriguing. Can't wait to see more. Are you going for the controller or striker spot?

I'm surprised there's only one cleric submission so far. Do you have a background in mind?

Rogue or Ranger here!

Leaning Ranger. Probably human. Could go elf.

Shayuri, you know you don't even have to ask. ;) I'd love to see you play something sneaky.

That's one of the main reasons of doing this--to familiarize everyone with the system. This will be the first 4e game I've DM'd too, so it'll be an adventure for all of us.

I'm a bit concerned about the character, though. No religion, no alignment. What could've happened in his life to make him so apathetic?

Glad to see you're getting back into the game after so many years! Do you have the 4e books yet? I don't think there's an SRD available yet to use otherwise. Your character sounds intriguing.

Going for Striker. Even with the Half elf's Dilettante (Fireburst), and taking thunderwave for the wizard multiclass, I don't think he'd be a good controller. Lets say he'll be a striker, with some options. ;)

Yes, indeed I do:

Illian Starsinger was born in the elven settlement in the Black Fens known as Starsong Hill (assuming we're playing in the Elsir Vale). His mother is Sellyria, the leader of the community (for a few hundred years) and Illian never knew his father as he was slain by lizardfolk barbarians shortly after his birth. The elf was raised in the small encampment and trained to live in the brutal, wild world that surrounded him. Showing signs of his mother's great wisdom and leadership potential Illian was asked to lead one of the surrounding settlements. During that time Illian often confided with the local cleric of Melora about his feelings of isolation in the remote community he was stationed and tired of the constant skirmishes against the foes located there with little effect. A cultured elf, Illian spent his free time reading and composing new works of music. He loved the lute, spent much of his time playing it. He read up on the words of Correlon (and the other elven gods), and found that they struck a chord with him. Illian had already received training in the basic martial weapons and armor, and coupled with his divine insights gleaned from the texts, he rose to become a great leader for his people. But somehow he still didn't feel fulfilled and so asked his mother for a leave to find out what was missing in his heart. With great reluctance she allowed him to leave, and he travelled to a place that he had heard of when a group of adventurers passed through years previous. So the recently arrived Illian stopped at a local tavern to wash away the dust of the road with a glass of wine, which was not up to his level of expectation, and to engage in some performances for the crowd.
