[SPAM] Scrollworks Compendium I

Christian Walker

First Post
I send/receive lots of e-mail to the effect of:

subscriber: "Ya got back issues available?"
me: "Sure! Issues 14 to the present (number 22) are available."
subscriber: "What about issues prior to 14?"
me: "Trust me, you don't want those."
subscriber: "Why not?!"
me: "Don't ask questions you really don't want to know the answers to."

And so on...

The real reason for the lack of back issues is that anything prior to July 2001 was well, um, practice. Yeah, that's it, practice.

Still, those first 13 issues had some redeeming qualities with some great contributions by talented folks. Recently I've overcome the brain numbing fatigue that comes from being a new parent. Well, maybe not overcome. Let's just say I've learned to manage it. Anywho, this new energy burst has allowed me to compile and edit the best content from Scrollworks' first 13 issues. Weighing in at a concise 28 pages, digest format, Compendium I will be ready for consumption next month.

More details to come. I just thought I'd plant a lil' nugget in yer minds....

I've been a Scrollworks Press subscriber for some time now and I've flat out fallen in love with this magazine. Christian does an amazing job every month of releasing an outstanding product.

Anyone who hasn't taken the time to check out Scrollworks, should. The articles are interesting, the artwork excellent and it's hard to believe that Christian does all of this out of his own pocket. No money other than donations and subscriptions. Sure, magazines produced by big name companies are glossy and pretty, but these companies use them almost solely as an advertising tool for their own product lines.

Scrollworks is great generic role-playing material. It's produced in a d20 format, and anyone familiar with those lost 13 issues Christian was mentioning will likely notice that they had a decided GURPS lean back in the day. It will be interesting to see if he converts the material or releases it as is. I'm looking forward to the compendium in any format.

Thanks for all the hard work Christian, you do a great job..

Regardless of the fact that I have contributed to "Scrollworks" a few times myself, no d20 enthusiasts should not be subscribing to this little gem. No excuses. I love finding this in my mailbox every month.

I just wanted to say that, based on the reccomendations above and browsing through Christian's site, I have placed a 6 month subscription! Looks like a lot of fun.

Thanks!

You know, I typed and deleted about 10 posts before deciding on this one.

I was talking to a contributor tonight, telling him about the kind comments being posted here. I was saying that I really didn't know if I should chime in or not. I'm just not used to people talking about Sworks given the low profile of the publication, so I really didn't know how to reply to the thread. Hence the multiple rough drafts. It's kind of neat, though. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

Thanks for the good words, everyone. Profitability is not relevant to Scrollworks, so positive feedback is how I get paid. Tonight I feel pretty darn rich.

Game on!
