Spam Users and Threads

Hi all,

Anyone know what has happened that we've suddenly been hit with a couple of spammers in the last week or so?

And how do they actually spam a messageboad? Surely they don't go to all the trouble of signing up manually?

Sorry if these questions have been asked before or if they are a little naive or ignorant. I'm just a little curious more than anything.

The spammers have managed to crack the 'captcha' algorithms. 'Captchas' are those little graphics boxes with words intermingled with squiggly lines and stuff that make you type the word in to register. Thus, they've managed to make bots that can register on a site and post crap automatically.

The vBulletin upgrade we're planning by Christmas should put a stop to it.

The lion's share isn't making it past the spambot (which is currently catching 10-15 hits / day)
