Special Conversion Thread: The Ghazneths

Ok, let's keep Increase Vermin limited to Vermin of size Tiny or smaller.

I like what you have for 5 and 6.

For 4, how about

Infest Location (Su): Starting on the round he expends a magic level, Xanthon may summon one animal or vermin swarm per round as long as he maintains concentration. He may fill any single building, field, or similar location up to 25ft x 25 ft in area before needing to expend another magic level.

That's a good start. Since all swarms have a space of 10 ft, you'd only be able to fit 4 swarms within such an area with wasted space. If we raise it to 30 x 30, he could fit 9 swarms with no wasted space.

We'll also need a HD/CR cap on the types of swarms he can get with his various abilities. We don't want him getting CR 23 ruin swarms!

Ruin swarms are animals or vermin? Ugg. Let's put in an HD cap of 10. Also, 30x30 ft works for me.

Yep, they're vermin. ;)

How's this revision?

Infest Location (Su): Starting on the round he expends a magic level, Xanthon may summon one animal or vermin swarm per round as long as he maintains concentration. He may fill any single building, field, or similar location up to 30 ft. x 30 ft. in area before needing to expend another magic level. Xanthon may only have 10 HD of summoned swarms at a given time.

I actually meant that each swarm should only be up to 10HD, since there are plenty of 9HD normal swarms and I think all swarms are at least 3HD. Why not an upper limit of 40 total? Then we'd have

Infest Location (Su): Starting on the round he expends a magic level, Xanthon may summon one animal or vermin swarm of under 10HD per round as long as he maintains concentration. He may fill any single building, field, or similar location up to 30 ft. x 30 ft. in area before needing to expend another magic level. Xanthon may only have 40 HD of summoned swarms at a given time. Xanthon only summons these swarms; he may not direct their actions.

I put in the last sentence to distinguish this from the summon rat swarm option.

In that case, since "summon" implies "direct their actions" in 3e...

Infest Location (Su): Starting on the round he expends a magic level, Xanthon may create one animal or vermin swarm of under 10 HD per round as long as he maintains concentration. He may fill any single building, field, or similar location up to 30 ft. x 30 ft. in area before needing to expend another magic level. Xanthon may only have 40 HD of created swarms at a given time. Although Xanthon creates these swarms, he may not direct their actions, nor do they have any loyalty toward him.

As for the others....

Summon Swarm (Su): By expending one stored magic level, Xanthon may summon a rat swarm, which remains for one hour or until destroyed.

Command Vermin (Su): Xanthon may command vermin as a Xth-level cleric commands undead. He may also command animals, provided that they possess either a poison or disease special attack.

I think that looks good. The main reason I wanted to make it so he didn't control the swarms from the infestation was that the original text stated explicitly when he controlled the rats.

For command vermin, should we say that "By expending one stored magic level, Xanthon ..."?

Good catch!
