Special made form fitting armor

IVe started playing a Fighter/Wizard and wanted to commision a suit of studded leather armor made specificly for the character. I wanted a suit of Masterwork Studded Leather made to fit me perfectly so that I could have a lower arcane spellfailure (which for studded leather is 15%) I was told that there are rules/prices for such things but can't recall where. I'm wanting to lower it by 5% if I can... any idea what the rules/prices are or where I can find them?

Well I know that Mithral reduces arcane spell failure by 10%, maybe tryin ta get mithral chain shirt which gives ya an arcane spell fail of only 10%. Don't really know if that is available to ya or what yer level is.

BTW what is wrong with just usin good old fashioned mage armor?

There are some really great ones in the Book of Eldritch Might 2, by Monte. The spellcasting enhancement reduces the arcane spell failure chance of armor by 15% and is a +2 market price modifier. Superior spellcasting completely removes the arcane spell failure chance (0%) and it is a +4 market price modifier.
 


Master Work does nothing for spell failure. I can't quote anything from wizards material that would help you, aside from Mithral, but I and others I've heard on this board use an enhancement to armor. Each +1 gives you a -5% to spell failure. You have to be 3 times the level of the enhancement, i.e. 6th level can make +2, or a -10%. House rule, but I think it's balanced. If you are going to spend the feat(s) to use armor, you are going to want to max the protection, so that will limit the special properties on the armor.

For a spellcaster, you want Mithral light armor, usually. a Mithril Shirt (DMG, magic armor section; costs 1100gp, canbe furtehr enchanted -- the 1100gp price is for a NON-magical mithril shirt).

From Magic of Faerun, "Livign Metal" construction is also an option. After wearing it for a week, it has finished fitting itself exactly to the wearer. The Dex Bonus allowed is raised by one, the Armor Check is reduced by 1, and Arcane Spell Failure is lowered by 5%. Additionally, Living Metal has HArdness 12, 30hp/inch, and, regenerates/heals/self-repairs 1hp/minute (be VERY AFRAID of a living metal golem, lol).

All this for 700gp (light armor), 2000gp (medium armor), or 4500gp (heavy armor).

Generally, Mithril is the best bet, aside from the self-regenerative properties (and sheer niftiness factor) of Living Metal.

As for a custom enhancement, "Spellcaster's Armor" ... I'd suggest perhaps a 10%, 20%, and 30%, with prices comparable to Fortification's Light, Medium, and Heavy levels. Call them Lesser Spellcaster's, Spellcaster's, and Greater Spellcaster's enhancements. As a thought. :)
 

Quintessential Wizard has rules for armor that's specially designed for decreased spell failure. IIRC, it can be added onto any MW armor, costs 200 gp extra, decreases ASF by 10% and AC by 2.

With the decrease in AC, that's actually fairly balanced. You may not want to let it stack with the reduction from Mithral though.
