D&D General Who is this made for (Not Beginners) - the New D&D Starter Set

It wouldn’t matter if the starter set cost $1. It’s still a waste of money if you are not a beginner or going to use it to introduce beginners to the game. The clue is in the name.
I don’t agree, my players and me are having a lot of fun with it, and all of them have played at least one adventure up to level 11, the adventure is still fun, and the components are all still useful

Like seriously, please explain how my subjective opinion here is somehow wrong?
Of course it isn't, but you tend to have a tone to your posts that often comes off as an attempt to suggest an objective truth - even when you point out that you're only speaking to your own needs and opinions!

I've learned to read your posts as you intend, and I enjoy talking to you, but: 1) It took a lot of work on my part, and 2) I still find myself arguing with you sometimes, in spite of myself!

Actually, I did not for the most part.

People simply did not address what I said was wrong with it and then glossed over what I said.
Actually that is precisely what you are doing as well. Several people did address your issues, but you don't seem to respond directly to those post. So it just goes back and forth as he said she said.

I would suggest following the order of operations in the box and then I think things will make more sense. This opinion of mine is based soled on the ideas shared in this thread (the responses you seemed to have missed) as I don't have the product.

Sorry, I try to respond to those who have direct comments to me, but there is only one of me, I don't spend all my time here (I have other things I am involved in), and I only have so much time.

The thread literally goes quicker than I really have time to respond to. I have time to pop it up throughout the day and read comments, but there is only one of me in relation to a lot of you.

That does not mean I do not read what is posted (and I have commented, I value what you guys do post, I think it's valuable for someone who sees my opinion to also get counter thoughts and opinions as well to make their own choices). Not everyone probably feels that way, but I do feel it's an important part of the thought process in this.

The thread was to highlight what I thought of the Starter Set (which I figured would be an unpopular opinion from the get go, wasn't proven wrong on that one!) so people had a different opinion and thought process.

It accomplished that and more.

However, I simply do not have the time to respond to every one and everything that posts here. I come, I read what has been posted and attempt to respond to the most direct ones or ones that I feel are prioritized. Even with direct responses I really don't have time to respond to everyone. If I think it may foster more conversation in one direction I respond, but if I don't think my response will clarify or add anything, I don't do it because...time.

I just don't have it.

Sorry.

If they are for the same game they can be fairly compared. If they aren't IMO they can't be. How is that cherry picking?
Starter set != PHB. Different things.

Other starter (boxed) sets except for the 2024 starter set are equally expensive. And the 2024 has a lot of stuff inside it.

Maybe not what you want but probably enough to more than justify its cost.

Iif it is not worth to you, great. But saying it is too expensive is objectively wrong. Saying it is bad at what it is supposed to be doing is most probably wrong. And what the OP suggested with their post was that crucial parts are missing, which is objectively wrong.

I am not sure anymore what your opinion is.
If it is: "it is more expensive than boxed sets before", yes you are mostly wrong as proven by another poster.

Fact is that the 2024 PHB is exceptionally cheap.

If your opinion is: "why should I buy an entry product that is clearly not made for people like me, when I can get a very cheap complete product", then you are not completely wrong... except that the PHB does not come with 3 adventures and DM advice and Monster stats (except for beasts).
If you take that into account, the whole package is 3 times as much as the boxed set costs...

My opinion is that a starter set is not worth equal cash outlay to a core book. It generally contains little to nothing I want that isn't also in the core, and I can teach the game just fine from the core books. The things that all of you seem to think make it worth the price of a core book are of lesser value to me. Is that clear enough? Can you just disagree with me and move on?
