Specialist Wizard/Sorcerer Multiclass...

If I am a Specialist Wizard and then take a level in Sorcerer, can I cast spells from my "forbidden" Wizard class if I take them as a Sorcerer?

Also, are you allowed two familiars at the same time, one for Wizard and one for Sorcerer? I think the answer is no, but I'm not sure.

By the rules, yes. You can also use spell trigger and spell completion items from your prohibited school as well. Apparently there are some DMs who house rule this away, but by the PHB, it is perfectly legal.

No, but your Sorcerer and Wizard levels stack for purposes of determining your familiar's abilities.

Yes... the classes are separate, with separate spell lists, and something that is prohibited for the Wizard has no bearing on what the sorcerer takes.

As far as familiars go... you could either have two, one from each class, or stack your levels from the sorcerer and Wizard and get more of the bonuses for a single familiar.

Yeah, note also, that in Tome & Blood this is specifically listed as a great idea to circumvent the penalties for specializing! Doh! :D

Thanks all. My main concern was taking a school and prohibiting the Abjuration school which would not allow me to get the Shield spell. And lets face it, a Wizard without the Shield spell is a dead Wizard. Plus I would get to cast it a lot more often then I would if I was a Wizard.

Prohibited School: Abjuration !?

Did you really think about the consequences !?

No Shield spell, ok, that's not a biggie... but no Dispel !?

This obviously isn't true! Do you really believe that EVERY wizard must take the shield spell or else he dies?

It is a useful spell to have available, but many 1st level wizards would swear by Mage Armour instead because of its longer duration and all around protectiveness. Others would say "don't get into a position where anyone is attacking you"!
