i have to travel today, and i decide to take one of these two books of mine.

the thing is that i never read them, so i dont know exactly what are they about.

as a dragonlance fan, i wish to know about lord soth, but i dont have the "knight of the black rose" sequel.

on the other hand, the only FR books i have read was the ice wind dale trilogy, so theres nothing about elminster.

what do you recomend?

sounds so cool to read about elminster having a hard time in hell, but OTOH, i know much more about lord soth, but i miss the prequel to this.

any help, please? :)

I'd take the Black Rose. Elminster in Hell contains some interesting concepts, but is more or less a tour through Elminster's memories as he bangs chicks through the ages. The ultimate resolution smacks of deus ex machina, too. While Ed Greenwood is a heck of a world-builder, his novels often seem lacking to me.

Go with Spectre of the Black Rose. While I don't think it's quite as good as its predecessor novel, it's still an incredible book. I think you'll definitely get more enjoyment out of it than Elminster in Hell.

Lord Soth in Ravenloft > Lord Soth in Dragonlance > ... > ... > Elminster in Hell > Elminster

Go with "Spectre of the Black Rose". I think you'll enjoy it more.

[Without further comment, I did not enjoy El in Hell]

Spectre of the Rose was mediocre, but Elminster in Hell was terrible. So, you could either take the lesser of two evils, or just skip both. I would recommend skipping both.

Spectre... one of my favorite RL novels (but then, I'm a big Soth fan, so it was easy). Interesting characters and an unbelievable ending.

Not very familiar with Greenwood's work or the Eleminster, besides what I've heard second hand.
