[Speculation] Why Yoda considers bringing balance to the Force a good thing...

First Post
There has been talk on these boards periodically about Yoda being a dumb@$$ to want to "bring balance to the force," because that would inherently mean that the dark side would become more powerful relative to the Light side.

But...

What if the Force, as an energy, is balanced in the universe. There is an equal amount of Light and Dark.

Thus, when there are only two Sith, they have access to the same size power pool as a few hundred Jedi. After all, Dooku, the weaker of the two Sith, was almost a match for Yoda himself. This goes along with what Yoda and Mace were talking about in EP2 about their ability to use the Force becoming limited. Yoda found it important to bring balance to the Force because all the weak little Jedilings were leeching power that would be better used by the Jedi masters.

Whaday'll think?

Oh, that's easy...

Yoda is an EVIL Green Space Goblin.

If they bring balance to the force and he lives (which is what happens) then he will have all the force to him self, he can live on a whole planet all to himself, and never have to teach a bunch of snot nose kids how to use the force ever again. Why do you think he didn't want to teach Luke He was so mad at Luke for bugging him. You could totally tell.

"I'm not afraid master Yoda."

"You will be, you will be..."

What the hell was that? When did he ever tell that to the 3 year olds in jedi pre-school in ep. 1 or 2?

After an interview off the record he said:

"Hoard the force I will..."
- Yoda

"An Evil Goblin I am, but prove it you can not..."
- Yoda

Its not a matter of selfishly hoarding the Force. Its simply the fact that as long as Force is wasted on Jedilings and Spacemarshals, the Sith will be unbeatable.

Well, according to Lucas himself...

"Bring balance to the Force" does not mean have an equal amount of light and dark. It means clear the taint of evil and the dark side.

It's not "balance" as in D&D neutrality. It's balance the way you might say a healthy body is "in balance."

Presence of dark side = out of balance.

Elimination of dark side = bringing it back into balance.

And of course, Anakin did exactly that, in RotJ. It just took him longer than they expected, and he went the long way around. ;)

Agreed. That's the view I maintained.

Well, actually Anakin accomplished both.

By the time Ep IV rolls around, we have 2 Sith and 2 Jedi. Balance.

Then, as mentioned, the dark side is effectively purged when Vader sacrifices himself to kill the Emperor. Dark side purged. Balance.

I haven't read any of the New Jedi Order stuff (or anything else beyond the Zahn books) but it strikes me as funny that Luke immediately starts down the road of building the Jedi into a large group again. This virtually guarantees that some day (probably not too far off) one of these new Jedi is going to go rogue and revive the ways of the Sith.
