Spell Batching the feat

Vhane

First Post
Proposed feat:

Spell Batch (yes I know the name sucks)

Prereq: 10 ranks Know. Arcana, Quicken spell and1 metamagic feat, 19+ Int, ability to prepare arcane(divine) spells

Benefit: Allows a caster who prepares spells to combine numerous spells into a single casting at the cost of total spell levels plus one level per spell after the first. Mage armor and sheild batch would take a level three slot. Targeted spells from this ability count as a single spell for sneak attack damage (like the orb spells).

With input included, Hows it look now?

with those pre reqs ... I would set this to the addition of the two spells together -

Ie shield and mage armor would be a second level slot - not a third.

I set the prereqs high because I'm not sure what Ive missed. Can you think of any spell combos which might break something.

You might be right on the Int requirement 19 might be more suitable.

This is essentially Quicken Spell, with lower level requirements AND the ability to use a quickened spell along with it for three spells a round! I'd say that you should stick with quicken and not use this. Or am I missing something?

I'm looking for a way to cast 2 - 4 low level spells with a single slot. Three level one spells at once would take a fifth level slot.

I suppose the issue that brought this feat up would be, I dont agree with 3e's reliance on magic items, I prefer residual spells, but there are very few spells in the system which have a decent duration. So rather than spend 3 or 4 rounds getting ready I'm trying for a quicker way into the action.

Also residual spells are not a commodity.

Most of the problem may come from encounters being spaced to far apart (an hour of so), now that I think of it.

To each their own, but I'd be really hesitant to allow this in my campaign. Hasted, a 7th level caster could easily cast 20 magic missiles in one round: one from haste, two from batch spell, one quickened. 20d4+20 = 70 points of expected damage, no save. No thanks!

If it only applied to "personal" spells, I might consider it.

As usually, PC has a very good point. I would definantely limit this to spells that can only be cast on the caster or his allies.
