Spell changes: good or bad?

One of the biggest irritations to me of spell changes in 3.5 where the multitude of pointless little changes - altering radius of effects from 20ft to 15ft or whatever. It isn't even as if all bursts were set at a particular radius, since they are still all over the shop.

The other biggest irritation was changing l-bolt to a "line" spell. Until they did that I had never, ever, seen any discussion about how it was supposed to work. After this change I've seen dozens. Plus removing the extending with caster level range from that and cones made them useless to try to extend.

In fact, it is curious that while admitting that metamagic wasn't as useful as they'd intended, they reduced empower by turning buff spells, sleep (and probably others) into fixed numbers rather than variables. They reduced extend by switching off its ability to scale cones and "lines" out further.

I agree with billd91, it almost looks like they got hit with creeping featuritis and didn't know when to stop.
