Spell DC modified by level

I have to wonder if the proposal had a typo...

Would it be more feasible if the proposed feat was something on the order of

DC 10 + (Caster level/2) + Ability modifier

If i was gonna use an Alt. method in my campaign, this would be the one. It gels with the 3e rules easily (since most all monster ability DCs are 10 + 1/2 HD + relevant ability mod). Plus, up to 20th-caster level, it really can't be all that unbalancing.

Take a Wiz20 with an Int 20. He casts a 9th-level spell. The DC to save (under the current rules) is 24 (10 + spell level 9 + 5 [Int mod]).

Using the above 10 + 1/2 Caster Level + ability mod gives the same spell a DC of 25 (10 + 10 [1/2 caster level] + 5 [Int mod]). It also makes his lower level spells more potent by raising the DC (since they are based on 1/2 caster level).

Not sure how it would hold up above 20th caster level or with things (such as feats) that modify caster level. It might get a little unbalancing.

Nah, if he was an engineer he would have used 10 + log(spell level) + sqrt(caster level/pi).

Well, I tried using log and cube roots to figure out a function for the recommended PC wealth chart in the DMG. No luck. :)
