Spell immunity and energy substitution

First Post
If a creature has the spell "spell immunity" cast on them to block the "fireball" spell what happens if they are hit by a fireball that is modified by the energy substitution feat.

Does spell immunity still stop the newly modified "iceball" or "sonicball"?

I'm inclined to say that spell immunity would still work since it is not a different spell just a modified version of the spell warded against. What do you all say?

Crothian and Hammerhead are correct. Also, you can counterspell an energy substituted (acid) Fireball with a plain ol' fireball as well.
