Spell levels when able to access multiple lists

This question has come up with artificers and archivists, the two classes which are able to gain access to spells on a number of spell lists.

If there is a spell that lies on different lists at different levels (ie Lesser Restoration, Paladin 1, Cleric 2), can the player use the lower level one?

For instance can an archivist add Lessor Restoration at 1st level if he gets it through a paladin rather than as a 2nd level spell?

Yes. This is much of the Archivist's power.

Note that the only spells he gets for free are from the Cleric list, so he couldn't get the Paladin version just from leveling up -- he'd need to buy an appropriate scroll.
