spell points

Aeson

I am the mysterious professor.
I'm sure this has been brought up many times but I don't have search or the time to look for. Can someone point me in the directions of any threads discussing spell point systems?

I'm thinking of using spell points rather than the default memorization of spells. Is there a spell point system in D&D?

You should be cautious before attempting to add a spell point system to your campaign.

For example, if you have PCs who cast a lot of damage spells, the versatility of the spell point system Thanee provided a link to is somewhat offset by the extra points required for the damage spells.

However, if you are running a higher level campaign or one where the PCs cast a lot of non-damaging spells, then the versatility of the spell point system makes the strongest characters in the game (i.e. spell casters) even more flexible. So, the spell casters in a spell point system tend to outshine the non- or limited spell casting classes even more than they do in a normal spell system campaign.

Just FYI.

PS. the system Thanee provided still requires memorization of spells.
