Spell Thieves and Pearls

Can a spell thief who has stolen a spell and subsequently cast it, use a pearl of power to recall the stolen spell?

I would think so except for the language in the pearl description:
enables the possessor to recall any one spell that she had prepared and then cast.

Thanks for your help.

Dave answered his own question. PoP affect spells the user prepared and cast so the spell thief is out of luck just like anyone else who does not prepare their own spells.

As a consolations prize, whoever had the spell stolen also can't use a pearl of power to return the spell.

Frank answered, this is just a follow-up:

Pearls of Power aren't good for spontaneous casters. Spellthief will get zero use out of one unless he takes the Arcane Preparation waste-of-a-Feat.

And to follow that up: Note that the MIC has an item which is like a pearl of power for spontaneous casters (and is twice as expensive, if memory serves) so if you want to, you can get something that will allow you to do that.

The item that moritheil was thinking of is a Momento Magica. They cost 50% more than a pearl of power and is usable to recover a spell slot for spontaneous casters.

Because, remember, kids: Sorcerers, Bards, and Spellthieves are more powerful than Wizards, Clerics, and Druids. That's why they cost extra.

The Momeneto recalls a spell slot, not a spell of a specified level. Spell slots are a LOT more flexible than spells, so yes spontaneous casters are expected to pay more.

Did 3e charge too much for flexibility, some folks think so. And yes, if the party camps after every fight, a sorcerer's spell stack, which is part of thier potency, is wasted.

You do raise a good point, but the issue (as I'm sure you know) is with more than just Pearls of Power. Everything that benefits a spontaneous caster costs more, hands down. More feats, more limitations, more money... It just seems like whoever invented the idea of a spontaneous caster talked it up to be the greatest, most powerful concept in the world.

"Who cares if this person knows three spells, he can cast those three spells without choosing them beforehand! Er, well, he DOES have to choose them beforehand, and it's quite a big choice to choose those three spells he'll ever get, but... well... NO PREPARATION! So let's be sure not to let him use anything the Wizard can use, without making him pay more. That would just be ridiculous!"

You know what I mean. In my opinion, the flexibility of a Sorcerer (which, in my opinion, is not so broad as people tend to think) isn't worth the endless sea of taxes that gets poured upon the spontaneous caster.
