Spellcraft vs Psicraft

I am playing in an FR campaign where the magic-psionics transparency rule is in effect. In such a campaign, is Spellcraft the same thing as Psicraft or are they totally different skills. Does anyone know where in the rules this is stated?

IRC it isn't, yet most people play that they are different skillsets.

IMC, for instance, I have merged Use Magic Device & Use Psionic Device into Use Mystical Device, but still have seperrated psicraft skill from spellcraft. I think PirateCat does something similar. Check with your DM.

Nope, there are only few specific effects

- Spell Resistance and Power Resistance are one and the same thing
- Dispel Magic and the psionic equivalent affect spells and powers equally
- Detect Magic and the psionic equivalent detect spells and powers equally

That's it. Everything else is just as it is.

They are two different forces, they just interact with each other.

In my FR campaign, I allow either skill to be used. However, the DC is increased by 10 for the other area of expertise. Ditto for Shadow Magic (and, this is how Shadow Magic and Psionics both work in FR, Shadow Magic is outside the normal weave and Psionics are personal weaves, also outside the normal weave).

So, if you are primarily a psion, you can still with difficulty find out about spells and spell effects with your psicraft.

If you are primarily a spell caster, you can still with difficulty find out about psionics and psionic effects with your spellcraft.

This makes it tough to find out about other types of weaves, but not impossible, especially at mid to higher levels.

The skill portion of the game is hard enough without having a skill for each and every nitpicky little thing (e.g. knowledge skills out the ying yang, but no skill points to buy them with).
