Spellfire

Who's to say that someone, even a spellfire wielder, indeed wouldn't become reliant upon magic?

You could even rule that the Spellfire Wielder becomes addicted to the tingly feeling that follows the absorbation of a spell.... :)

I'm checking out the addiction rules as I type this. :D

I played a spellfire weilder as written. Absolutely, horribly overpowered, though I have to admit I made him that way. Dwarf, mage, toad, 20 con etc etc etc. It was a in Return to the Temple of Elemental evil, and the DM dared me to build a power character. After buying a couple of wands, the recharge problem was a non-issue as I sttod there and let the cleric hit me with the wand while I stocked charges. Beware the spellfire. I banned it in my game.

I think that's one of the main reasons I haven't had a problem with spellfire in my games. One of the players I have that tends to power-game isn't interested in spellfire. He's all about combat or psionics.

Spellfire Negotiator.
"I'm sure we can all come to an agreement." >VOOM<

Spellfire Lawyer.
"I submit to the court Exhibit A." >VOOM<

Spellfire Cleric.
"Turning? You're in jest, right?" >VOOM<

Spellfire Rogue.
"What's a dagger?" >VOOM<

Spellfire Ranger.
"No, I don't carry a bow. What's so funny about that?" >VOOM<

Spellfire Barbarian.
"RHARGH!!!!!!!" >VOOM<

Spellfire Town Guard.
>VOOM< "State your business." (Yes, the order is intentional)

Spellfire Dwarf.
"I wonder if I can'a use this ta' make me a' strong brew." >VOOM<

:D

I never thought of this before, but since you need to "Ready an Action" to absorb spell levels, you can't do it out side of combat.

Under that rule, it balances out pretty well. It's only when they can be "charged up" a day in advance that it becomes a problem.

I've never played a Spellfire wielder, but I see the biggest problem being the ability to retain charges. A possible modification would be to loose charges over time say one per minute or round. This avoids the charge up before bed phenomena (much to the disappointment of certain spellcasters ;) ). Or, if you'd like the Spellfire wielder to retain some energy, limit it to their CON mod.
