OK, I'll bite. What's the Paizo take on spell weavers?

I like to know about that too....at least which issue was it? :o

So there is no forgotten lore or some lost material somewhere about the spellweavers that might link them somehow with dragonkind (or even better Tiamat)....(no that i can't make them though) but just dyingly curious..... :heh:

Maybe something from 2nd ed or was this an all new race from 3e altogether ?

Dragon #338. It was a magic-themed issue.

Spellweavers first appeared in Dragon #163, and they were reprinted in the Monstrous Compendium Annual #1. The next place they appeared was the 3rd edition Monster Manual II, so there's not a lot of information on them.

They were never associated with dragons; they were originally presented as an enigmatic alien race, part reptile, part mammal, and part insect, from a parallel material plane, obsessed with magical items and phenomena.

The idea that they were connected to Tiamat is new to Races of the Dragon, probably because they're (very) slightly reptilian and associated with magic. The biggest problem with that idea is that they're neither lawful nor evil: their alignment is "usually neutral," which would make them a poor choice for advancing Tiamat's goals.

I'm still certain that Demiurge's interpretation on the matter is correct. You'd have to change them in order to make them into dragonspawn. Keep their stats, but change their appearance, origin, and alignment.
