Spider Man is Dead! Long Live Spider Man?

Man... don't reboot the series already. Give it a few years. Pick another comic book to do in the meantime.
Hmm? Spider-Man 3 came out in 2007. They're targeting the reboot for 2012. That's a few years and then some.

Spiderman 3 was the travesty it was because the "Studio's" wouldn't let Riami do what he wanted.
The whole "travesty" thing...I don't get it. Seems to me like folks heard that Spidey 3 would have Sandman and Venom and Green Goblin, then fanboys just went off on some jag about how the Batman movies had multiple villains therefore any movie with multiple villains will suck. The "travesty" reaction was a fait accompli before the movie was even released.

Personally, I liked everything that went on with the different villains. Eddy Brock was a good rival for Peter, Sandman was a sympathetic villain (and he provided Peter with someone to fight when he had the symbiote), and there really needed to be closure with Harry Osborn.

That is idiotic. I wish Marvel Studios (or whatever their movie company is called) had control of this license.
QFT.

This is my thought exactly. While I didn't mind Spider-Man 3 much myself, I would much rather see Marvel studios get back the rights for Spidey and the X-Men from Sony and Fox respectively. I appreciate that those two franchises were the first of the recent wave of GOOD comic book movies (along with Batman Begins for DC). But I also think that Marvels in house Studio has been behind making GREAT comic book movies like Iron Man I and II, and the forthcoming Thor which promises to be awesome. I would love to see what they could do with Spidey and especially the X-Men, my favorite comics of all time. Sadly, as long as Sony and Fox keep making their own movies, they will probably retain the rights to said movies. I will give Fow props for the Wolverine movie though. That was a notch above the other X-Men movies they've done.

I heard they announced the new director -- Marc Webb, who directed (500) Days of Summer. I haven't seen that, and know nothing about him, aside that his last name is appropriate. I hope he's a bit of a Spidey fan, though.

We certainly don't need to see his origin. That, we get. Putting Peter back in high school is probably what the reboot entails, and maybe bringing up the Green Goblin.
