The High Aldwin
Well, that is part of the problem with 5E IMO. BA is fine in theory, and I understand why they did it, but they went too far in practice.Just be careful. The math difference between +6 and +5 isn't really huge, so you might run into people just buying a ton of lower proficiencies and not caring as much about higher if they don't come with other stuff.
I have always hated that prof bonus is +2 at level 1, and only +6 at level 20! We house-ruled it to +8 at level 18+ so it is a bit better, but that was the highest we could go before it began affecting things too much.
But, consider IRL the point of diminishing returns. It is easier to be pretty good at lots of stuff instead of great at one or two things. For most people, the additional effort for the slight edge in improvement just isn't worth the time and dedication to reach those really high levels of ability.
I am ok with a system reflecting that. It is one of the reasons I love Shadowrun. Getting to the next "level" in a skill always costs more than earning the previous. But, I know part of that is baked into the XP progression table for leveling...
