[Spoilers] Smallville

Salutations,

I watched and enjoyed it.

Hasn't Clark already flown in an episode?

He woke up floating above his bed in one of the early episodes, iirc. In my mind I can picture the cool scene of clark flying out of the tornado with the pickup on his shoulders.

I hope they don't get rid of the supervillians- it would be one boring super hero show without some supervillians. Though it would be nice to see some of them come back.

As for Lex's father, would Lex get his father's stocks if he dies? And then inherit control of the Lexcorp? There would be little reason for him to stay in Smallville then.

Unless his father screws him in the will- which I could imagine.

Does anyone have any theories on what is in the baby carriage/ufo? I hope something original.

Well, here is hoping for Bruce Wayne to stroll through town next season.

It has been established that Clark levitates in his sleep. However, he is as yet unable to control that ability; he has not accessed it - intentionally or unintentionally - while conscious; and the producers continue to chant "no flights, no tights". I sincerely doubt that we will see conscious, intentional flight in the near future.

Spoilers have been revealed for next season - through Lex Luthor's account on the LuthorCorp intranet - that indicate that, regardless of whether his father lives or dies, Lex's involvement with LuthorCorp will end and a new entity, LexCorp, will be born. It is possible that LuthorCorp itself will be transformed into the new company; Lex might choose to change the name in an effort to restore the company's reputation, or at least give it a blank slate.

Bruce Wayne is problematic; there are a lot of hoops to jump through before they bring him on the show. Yes, the WB owns Superman and Batman and the rest, but...well, I don't know what's going on, I just know the producers aren't sure they can make it happen.

Note that at least some of the supervillains didn't die - at least not onscreen. Yes, some of them could indeed return, and probably will. I'm hoping for less emphasis on Kryptonite, however; it has been implied that some humans have developed powers without the aid of that substance, and I would like to see that theme explored in more detail. In the original DCU, Superman was the first of many superheroes; in the current DCU, he's one of many, not even the first. It seems that in the Smallville universe there have not yet been any other superheroes - to the public's knowledge - so frankly, I'd like to see some. Give us a Green Lantern! A Flash! Even a Black Canary will do! (Actually, BC is my favorite DC heroine - though Wonder Woman is a close second - it's just that she only has the one rather lame superpower.) Or give us completely original superhumans. Just - enough with the Kryptonite.

And, again, I don't even need to see SUPERvillains every week. "Rogue" was one of Smallville's more interesting episodes, and the villain in that one was completely human. Of course, they killed the guy at the end - I wasn't too thrilled with that; I would've liked to see our friend Phelan keep his life and his knowledge of Clark's powers, and return a few more times to cause trouble. I think he would have made a great recurring villain.

Unfortuneately I missed the season finale because of Buffy, and couldn't tape it since I don't own a vcr. I didn't watch a lot of Smallville, but when I did, I didn't feel like I missed much. One thing I am curious about though, did he find out about the superman thing. I guess I am not up on all of the versions. I remember in Lois and Clark he found out through a symbol in a trunk of stuff that came to earth with him.
I think Smallville has the potential to get better, I agree the rock thing was a bit redundant, but it still had some purpose to show the different effects that it can have which I am sure will be reused some time later on, only one won't have to speculate what it is.
I think I will still give it another season to see if it does improve a lot more.

The Superman symbol has made some appearances, in a way, but we have not yet seen it in a context that has anything to do with the ship. We saw something very much like it on a breastplate in a Metropolis museum (said breastplate supposedly belonged to Alexander the Great, and featured a familiar shield-shape containing a serpent twisted into a vague "S"), and I've heard that a shield-and-S combo was on the Smallville High varsity jackets in the pilot episode. (I don't remember that myself; in any event, DC apparently complained and the producers stopped using that symbol; now they just use the letter S.)

I think it's going to turn out that the S-shield will have an Earthly inspiration, and my attitude is - good. I always thought that part of the mythology (no, it's not an S in a diamond, it's the SYMBOL OF THE HOUSE OF EL!) was pretty stupid.

Anyone watch this?
Yup. While it is full of teen angst, I like the show's format. I particularly like all those inside joke, like Jonathan Kent listening to the theme from The Dukes of Hazards, to Alexander the Great's armor, or anytime the find a way to display the famous emblem.

I feel it started off weakly with it's kryptonite-villain-of-the-week formula, but that towards the end it started to get much stronger. The season finale, in particular, was excellent with Lex Luthor's true colours slowly starting to show through.
Well, it was nice to know that the radiation from that meteor not only affect Clark but the inhabitants of Smallville. I have to admit it does come off as a teen version of the X-Files.

Seems odd the way they've put a lot of characters in a position whereby they can easily not return next year. Lionel Luthor could die, Lana likewise, as could Clark's father; and Whitney has just gone off to join the marines.
It seems that the cliffhanger concept is abundant this season. I think that Lionel should live to continue to antagonize his son. Nothing can bring Lex to the dark side than his own father. Darth Vader should take note.

Whitney's departure will allow Lana to see Clark differently and it will make for a complicated love triangle.

I'm hoping they kill off Lionel so as to give Lex his wings (so to speak); I can't see Lana dying as she is a staple part of the traditional Superman mythos.
See above regarding Lionel.

Killing Lana would screw up the whole Superman mythos and might not accept favorably by fans. Kristin is guaranteed a secure acting job next season.

Clark's father could either die or not, depending on whose version of Superman you want to follow (I don't read the comics mush - is he still alive there?).
Couldn't see him being dead right now. Clark still need guidance that only a father can give so he can grow up with those old-fashioned American values.

Salutations,

In the premier episode the symbol (diamond and all) was spraypainted on his chest when he was made into the scarecrow by Whitney and the football team. I don't recall if it was on their jerseys, but that would make sense.

The style of the letter was also seen in the very beginning on a billboard welcoming people to Smallville.

Of course he has reason to stay in Smallville. Lex isn't just there to be away from his father. He's there to learn about what happened with the meteor. He's there because he's trying to remake himself as a good person and he's chosen Smallville as the right place to do that. He's there because he's trying to establish a reputation for himself that is different and distinct from the one his father has (and the legacy he left in Smallville makes it a good place for that)* He will stay in Smallville just for those things.

Frankly, I watch the show because I find Lex to be an interesting character. If it was just Clark, I'd be gone. I feel for Lex and I'd like to believe there is a chance he can successfully avoid becoming a villain. As for continuity with the comics, they can throw that in the dumpster for all I care.

* though these things may ultimately be his undoing. It seems as though every time he makes an honest effort to do the right thing, make something right, or help someone out they end up giving him a proverbial slap in the face for his effort. I wouldn't wonder if that ultimately was a big part of what drives him over the edge.

Lex becomes President and is responisble for nuclear destruction.

Um, that's reading into the vision quite a bit. Lex standing in a field of sunflowers that wither into a wasteland could be nuclear destruction, but it could be very many other things.

Nightstorm is referring to current continuity in the Superman comic books. In the (relatively) recent "Our Worlds at War" storyline, Lex, who is now President of the United States, was partially responsible for a great deal of the damage suffered by the U.S. - particularly Kansas. (I forget what exactly he did, but I seem to recall that a deal with Braniac was involved.)

Again, however, we have no reason to believe that the producers will cling to current continuity. They may choose bits and pieces of the existing Superman canon as they see fit, and make up the rest - or draw upon other sources, including the older books and/or Elseworlds stories.

This comes from a super-fan:

In the pilot episode, Clark only gets sprayed with the S, no diamond.

The mascot of the Smallville Crows (shown prominently in the fire-coach episode) is a BLUE crow wearing a RED cape! I can't seem to remember, but I think it also had an S on its chest.

In the comics, Pa Kent may be suffering from Alzheimers. Ma Kent is fine, though.

In the comics, President Luthor strikes up a deal with Brainiac 13, who stated that every great american president had one thing in common with the others: a war. I think Lex may be headed for an impeachment. But then again, he now knows Clark is Supes, so...
