Oh, come on, you can't have a discussion about balls before you define what a ball is! For our purposes, do balls have to be spheres, or are oblate spheroids allowed? And, if you allow oblate spheroids, why not other arbitrary shapes? Then we're down the slippery slope of having teddy bears be "balls"....

Perhaps not as far as teddy bears because they are OBVOUSLY not balls, but what about pucks? The originals were balls -- are pucks acceptable?

This almost spherical ball one has a core of cork beneath layers of tightly wound string. All of this is covered by a leather outer layer that has a raised sewn seam running along a great circle. This leather layer is constructed from four pieces. The seam comprises six rows of stitching.

The ball can weigh no more than 163g and its circumference can be no more than 229mm. It's flippin' hard and sometimes lethal.

And what are Frisbees if not big pucks with really good hangtime? And there are games played with Frisbees that are directly analogous to games played with balls. So, are frisbees balls?
