Spring Attack and Touch Attacks

Hi!

Is it possible to cast a touch attack spell at a safe distance, then go ahead and spring attack a creature delivering the charge? Or is Spring Attack only legal with melee attacks?

IMO, if you disregard the fact that the feat states that you need to use the "attack action with a melee weapon", you can, you just can't do it in one round

Cast the spell on round 1 and hold the charge, then, on round 2, you can Spring Attack.

Using the "attack action with a melee weapon" to discharge a spell is possilble if you're attacking the foe with an unarmed strike. Note that this will draw an AoO if you don't have the appropriate feat.

Yes it is possible to cast a touch spell at a safe distance then spring attack. By casting a touch spell you can choose to attack in the same round and move before or after.The touch attack does not provoke an attack of opportunity but it would be up to your DM about the whole MELEE WEAPON thing with spring attack,I really don't see a problem with it .

Attacking with a melee touch spell causes you to be considered armed, thus not provoking attacks of opportunity from the touch attack itself. So you should be able to cast a touch spell, then next round use Spring Attack to deliver the spell's charge in melee.

I would definitely allow it, especially since the cost is so high.

I think that the option of casting+moving+touching in the same round, which is a special case allowed by the RAW, should work with Spring Attack. If one would like to read the RAW strictly, probably you're not "using the attack action with a melee weapon", even if you consider the touch a melee weapon, because you're actually using a special version of the "cast a spell" action here. However I think it just makes no sense disallowing it at all.

If one still disallows doing all this in the same round, at least it seems legal to me to cast the spell previously (and hold the charge), then in the next round delivering the spell with the touch attack takes the correct attack action, and IIRC the touch is considered a melee weapon (e.g. you don't provoke an AoO when discharing a touch spell, and you can make AoOs with it, IIRC).
