Spycraft and how it goes up against D20 modern

yeah I cant wait to play spy games. My gaming group is very excited about both D20 Modern and Spycraft. Thing I just noticed. They are using very similiar mechanics. Action die,VP/WP,defence,initiative. Wonderif they will have gadget and budget points;)

Hello Triple H

Hello all! :)

Don't mean to hijack this thread - I just want to say hello to my good mate Triple H.

Hope you're keeping well, and yes I have been keeping up to date with all things 'rasslin'! Hopefully the man with the biggest arms will be back in the federation soon enough, if rumours are to be believed! ;)

Take care!

d20 Call of Cthulhu is, I think, the most exciting development in the system. COC is such a different genre from D&D, with such different requirements, that it will really stretch the system and see just how flexible it can be made to be.

That said, I'm not entirely sure what use there will be for d20 Modern after COC is out, as it seems to me that there will be an awful lot of overlap. The only reason I can think of for it is to develop other settings, or retain a Modern ruleset IP -- as I recall, only Chaosium can continue development of COC after the initial WOTC release.

Waves to UK:) glad to hear from you and yes I am doing well. working on wrestling website;)

Now I looked a tCOC thing and must say I like it better ten D20 modern but will ike D20 Spycraft more. Why you say? LOL cause I really love spy games:) But CoC looks to be good and I dont think it will overlap with D20 at all. Looks to be two differnt gaming mechanics.

Hm spycraft websie has not updated fro awhile:( Who else likes the action point sytem??? Since that is in both Spycraft and Modern.

I'm not too picky. I will embrace any new innovations to the d20 System: the apparent classless mechanics of CoC (which will probably add an additional hour to create a character, especially if I don't like the suggested templates), the ability-based class mechanics of d20 Modern (focuses on your abilities strongpoint which may not to your chosen career, like WWF's Bradshaw of APA who is also a stockbroker analyst), or the unique Department/Class mechanics of Spycraft (which one can replace the Department list by service branches like US Marine, Russian Spetsnaz(?), Royal Navy, etc.).

But if I were to choose which is better for d20 System based on core rules familiarity and level of difficulty: Spycraft.

Buffy, she's the Strong and Fast Hero. Willow and Giles are the Smart Heroes. And so forth. Very cinematic.

This indicates to me that they probably could have got by with just two base character classes: The Action Hero (physical skill emphasis) and The Thinking Hero (mental skill emphasis).

Action Heroes might include Buffy, Angel, Melvin Frohike, Jimmy Bond, Col. Jack O'Neil, and Teal'c.

Thinking Heroes might include Giles, Willow, Dana Scully, Byers and Langley, General Hammond, and Daniel Jackson.

Multiclassed Action/Thinking Heroes might include Xander, Fox Mulder, Walter Skinner, Yves Adelle Harlow, and Maj. Samantha Carter.

Yup. Action Hero and Smart Hero are both just cool and simple enough to make me not immediately dislike them as class choices. Having a Hero for every different stat seems kind of lame, at least as seen in d20 Shadowchasers.

Dance, little men, dance!!!
