This has gotten the Forrester treatment, but I think it was in the tirade against elves.
I think apostrophes are rather silly, and that the letters "L" "Y" "Q" and "AE" (one, two, whatever) are far too overused...'specially amongst elves (and Drow)
I think the spelling gives a bit of culture, but you should adopt it from the real-world to keep it pronouncable. Something Mesoamerican should have X's, Z's, T's, E's, and C's. Something a bit nordic should have F's, O's, G's, R's, Y's. Something a bit eastern europe should have V's, Y's, Z's, I's.
Based on this, I would say the elves are Welsh, and that's probably insulting to the Welsh. I would say Drow are African (because the apostrophe is sometimes used to represent a click or other noise without an English letter)...which is so insulting on so many levels....
