Well, for one, your campaign world has a LOT of adventuring types. Fighters and sorcerors fall from trees, apparently. In most campaing worlds, army grunts are warriors (or even commoners), and adventuring classes are very rare on the battlefield. Your campaign, do what you want, but I'm just pointing out that that's odd.
Squegees won't help, the PCs will be fine dust in the wind. The wizard 17 alone could be a challenging encounter to say the least, throw in all his minions and the PCs are finished within a minute.
EDIT: Grr.... those darn "Reply" and "New Topic" buttons are too close together when you're half asleep...
