SRD Illustrated Prestige Classes

SRD Illustrated Prestige Classes

With the advent of open contents and the system reference document there have been a number of products that take what has been written and give it a new look. Some of these take items from a similar theme from many products and give it a new treatment and look in one simple book. Others take items of similar type and do the same thing. There have been many of these books and they have had difference degrees of success. Most of those have purpose and even that not very good ones I can see why they were put together. However, SRD Illustrated Prestige Classes I can not figure out why it is here.

SRD Illustrated Prestige Classes in product by The Le Games. The Le Games is a PDF company that has had success with their line of Unorthodox books which feature alternate core classes. The PDF is about thirty pages long and comes in a nice sized zip file a bit over four megs. The layout is a little loose with a bit too many white spaces and things spaced out. The book marks are basic but there. The art is pretty good for an book such as this I was really expecting better.

This book takes the fifteen prestige classes from the SRD and reprints them in full with new art. That is all the book does. The classes people should know since they can be gotten for free on line and also appear in the Dungeon Masters Guide. I just do not see the point of presenting these classes with new art. That’s why I really expected the art to be much better or perhaps full page pictures. The prestige classes are of course good. The Arcane Archer has always been a personal favorite. The Horizon Walker was not the best choice for a Ranger but it is interesting with its planar focus. The Assassin is of course a stable in many games and the Arch Mage is a goal of many wizards. But we already have this material.

So, in the end I am just at a lose on the reason for the book. The classes are easy to get in other places and the art and layout just are not enough to justify this product. There is nothing wrong with the content as the classes are the same many people know and use. But the package on a whole just fails.
