Staff of Defense Implement(1H or 2H)

Now with the "We who are about to die " article from Dragon, there is a feat that turns the staff into a double weapon, giving it the defensive property. A much more elegant solution.

Also, if you are allowed to use the staff with just one hand ad gain the implement bonus, you can wear a shield on the other arm. (Not 100% this stacks - is the implement bonus a shield bonus? IIR its not.)

So, at 2nd lvl, grab proficiency for parrying dagger?

How about this. Spiked Shield enchanted with Defensive Weapon and holding your implement staff and wielding your wand in your main hand. I believe this will only cost you one feat light Shield.
