Standing up and 5 foot step

Standing up from prone is listed as a move action and the exclusion of a 5ft step is only listed under moving your speed as a move action... so yes, you can stand up and take a 5ft step.

That was my understanding also, but I was a bit unsure whether standing up (MEA) count as movement or not. Thanks

Ole hyvä. Yes I think that MEA don't count as movement if there is no actual change on your position on the grid, although someone could argue that there is a vertical movement ;)

Movement = Changing the square you are in.

Dodging an attack isn't moving by the rules (even thouyh you might step aside several feet)

Standing up isn't moving by the rules, either (although it takes the same time as moving your speed).

I always thought it would be cool if there was some skill/feat that would allow you to tumble some distance and stand up in the same MEA (like in martial arts movies, where someone is knocked off his feet and keeps tumbling about, on the ground, as he moves). 'Tumble' seems like the obvious skill for that :D

I know, it's not really related to the topic :p

There are several official D&D feats that allow you to stand as a free action... whether you move or not is up to you then :D
